Interior Race Theory

Jacquelyn Ogorchukwu Iyamah created Interior Race Theory in 2022 in response to the lack of practical race-focused interior design frameworks. Based on the idea of priming in psychology, Interior Race Theory argues that what we interact with in our interior environments can cause Black, Indigenous, and other racialized people to have positive or negative racialized experiences. While Interior Race Theory was initially centered on the home, it also applies to other interior spaces such as schools, offices, museums, grocery stores, cafes, hotels, and more.
