Jacquelyn Iyamah created Interior Race Theory in 2022, to examine how interior design shapes the experiences of Black, brown, and racialized communities. Initially centered on the home, the theory now spans typologies such as workplaces, schools, and retail, addressing elements such as decor, atmosphere, circulation, and infrastructure. Building on this theory, Jacquelyn developed the RED Standard™—a comprehensive design standard that provides criteria for creating safe, healthy, accessible, and sustainable buildings and interiors for racialized communities. Her approach bridges pedagogy and practice.
