Jacquelyn Iyamah created Interior Race Theory in 2022, to examine how interior design shapes the experiences of Black and brown communities. Initially centered on the home, the theory now spans typologies such as workplaces, schools, and retail, addressing elements such as facades, circulation, lighting, decor, and more. Building on this theory, Jacquelyn developed the RED Guideline™—a comprehensive design standard that provides criteria for creating racially equitable buildings and interiors for Black and brown. Her approach bridges pedagogy and practice.
