Jacquelyn Iyamah created Interior Race Theory, in 2022, which highlights how the design of interior environments can profoundly impact the racialized experiences of Black, brown, and racialized communities. Originally focused on the home and objects, the theory has since expanded to include workplaces, schools, restaurants, hotels, and retail spaces, incorporating elements like decor, atmosphere, spatial arrangement, materials, structure, and infrastructure.

Building on this theory, Making the Body a Home developed the RED Standard™—a comprehensive design standard that stands for 'Racial Equity Design.' This standard provides detailed criteria for creating racially equitable interiors across residential, commercial, and cultural spaces, addressing a gap in existing standards that typically focus on sustainability, accessibility, and wellness.

Making the Body a Home uses these standards to host talks and workshops that educate design firms and organizations on how to design physical spaces that truly resonate with the lived experiences of Black, brown, and racialized communities.
